On mine I rebuild the valve. I removed the flapper and the rod and re bushed the flange. I only did this as the holes for where the rod when through the flange had ob-longed. I too had the same issue with the small rod that held the spring. I ended up grinding it flush. drilling a new hole and pressing in a new pin.
