Here is the switch and connectors. The piece of wire shows the Douglas terminal which slides into the switch part. Note the arrow on the wire terminal photo pointing to the slight depression. That depression is grabbed by a piece of springy metal shown at the end of the arrow in the switch half of the connector and prevents the wire from being easily pulled out. If yours is being difficult I wonder if someone has taken pliers to the connector and bent it so it is too tight.
Also have a photo of the same terminal as used on the solenoid valve. You might be able to get a different view or perspective.
