Last post for me tonight. Here a nice picture of the coutershaft and associated parts. I think it is 25 needle bearings at each end. I noticed the the steel washer on the rear side was kind of blue. Is that indication that it was run hard or dry at some point?

Right now, I have no idea how I am supposed to get this retaining ring out of the rear bearing on the tail shaft. Are there plyers to go around a corner? That is stopping me from further dis-assembly. Please chime in if you know how to proceed.
As of now, I will clean and inspect and sort the parts, and try and figure out what is next. Don't expect this to move too fast, but I would like to put this back together eventually.
It would also be nice to replace the snap rings with newer ones that have the holes to put the pliers in. Are there old style plyers that are used to remove these snap rings? Hope I can make some progress again soon, but I am not holding my breath
