oh lol, I think your eyes are playing tricks on you. The mangled looking mess at the top in 2980 is the cup/plug I took out of the hole at the bottom. I used an air chisel to smoosh it in at the sides of the circle and it just popped right out. I just sat it on the manifold to take a picture next to the hole it came out of.

I'm assuming that normally the hole in the manifold holds the choke for a Stromberg carb, but my car has the carter and a thermostatic choke on the side of the carb.
