Got a little more done today, but have a ^&*( of a charley horse in my right leg. 
Makes getting up and down a bit of a pain. I had to bend a new oil feed line for the filter to eliminate touching the shield. I put a small S curve in it. I did remove the oil filter to install the shield and now I think I know why a lot of them are missing. That is a close fit! I also discovered why there is a hole in the shield, but I want some others to discover it for themselves.
