The instructions in post 4 mentions the clip next to the washer that needs to be removed. The clip or snap ring is the smaller diameter but wider object closest to the word "point" and encircles a little over half of the shaft. It is probably hidden by grease and dirt and any dirt on the rest of the shaft will also need to be cleaned. Once the clip is removed and any tension from springs or linkage is also removed, the cleaned shaft will release and slide out of the pedals and frame.
