in my opinion polishing the plastic so that it is as optically clear as possible is key.

I painted and stripped the chrome features 2 times with different paint and each time it appeared silver and not chrome. Then as I was wrapping up my dinner with tin foil it occured to me to use foil kind of like gold leaf and I was very pleased with the outcome

Fot the candied red I got some tinted clear coat, with the goal being a medium/light coat. On top of that I used a metallic silver
