For those who care about such details, here is the fuel level sender. It looks like the sender from the 22nd and 23rd series cars, as does the tank itself, but the mechanism is designed to work with the 1951 gauge. As bad as it looks in the photo, it’s actually quite solid and possibly restorable which I’ll soon find out as it’s being sent off to do so.

I was surprised to find the arm and float intact but it has been sitting for over 50 years empty so that’s probably why. The tank sounds like a giant maraca when shaken so will need cleaning and sealing.
