For starters, on the pre 51 trans there is a bolt with a vent hole thru the center. If the trans has not seen too rough a life it is covered with a sheet metal cap. I believe the bolt is still in the same place on the later trans and only that right rear position in the raised part of the cover has the case hole drilled deep enough to go thru to the inside cavity. Make sure the vent bolt has not been swapped for a regular bolt and that vented bolt is in the proper spot so increased internal pressure from the heated oil is not forcing it out.

Also, when you changed the oil did you fill in the proper sequence so that it is not overfull? On prior years and I believe it stayed the same for 51 and later, since the two units share oil thru a connecting passage the OD gets filled first and then the trans so any oil that wants to move over from the OD is already in the trans when it gets filled.
