set my poor painter loose on the frame to sandblast the whole thing and then proceed to epoxy prime the frame and then apply several coats of slicksand to fill the rather deep pits in the frame and prep it so it will look perfect. we did sparingly use the odd touch of filler to smooth some of the really badly pited areas that weren't bad enough to warrent clad welding or patching but too deep to fill with primer.
