Okay…it seems my generator has decided to stop generating. I did a little trouble shooting with Ross’ assistance. I noticed that my ammeter was reading slightly negative when driving (no lights on etc..). The battery is fully charged and is at 6.35V. When I start the car, the voltage drops to about 6.27V. I then disconnected the battery and verified that the regulator points were not stuck and cleaned them. I also performed the re-polarization procedure just to make sure that wasn’t the issue. No change.

Then, after talking to Ross, I shorted the Field terminal to ground (momentarily) which should have caused the voltage to jump up. The relay did operate, but the voltage did not change at all.

So…my question…does anyone have any recommendations for someone to rebuild my generator? Otherwise, I do see that I can get one already re-built for about $275. I really don’t know what it typically cost to have one re-built.

Also, the generator that I have has been in the car at least since 1960 (before my Dad bought it) and is a Chrysler generator. That doesn’t really matter, just interesting part of the car history.
