Brake system rebuild started today. Car was put on jackstands and came of the wheel skates.

Front wheel came off and so did the dustcaps. That's when I noticed that there were no cotterpins on either side. There is a hole for what I'd imagine should be one. Is there supposed to be one?

So anyways, pull everything apart and gave a good coat brake cleaner to remove the muck. The paint on the backing plates just melted away revealing a light tan color underneath. The black that was sprayed for sure didn't bond to it.

So cleaned up everything and removed all the old grease from the bearings. Ready to be repacked. They were in good shape and the seals look good as well. So I will reuse.

The old wheel cylinders and lines are complete rust bound. I had to cut one rust hardline as it's fitting was rust welded into the hose connector.

So laid out all the parts that came with the complete Kanter rebuild kit. This include shoes, hold down hardware, adjusters, hoses, new wheel cylinders and new master cylinder.

That when I noticed that something appears to be missing from the rebuild kit. The little rods that go between the wheel cylinder and the shoes.

The old one are connected to the old shoes with peened over pins, and they are very corroded.

Should I have expected those to ha e been included in the Kanter kit? Everything else is.

I guess I'll have to call them. So yeah, currently blocked because of that.
