It works really well and it doesn't gouge the metal. It works a little bit slower, but leaves a beautiful surface on the metal. The drums are about $25 each. But, they last and last compared to sandpaper or stripping discs.

HF and Amazon sell drums of different grits. Also HF has their own knockoff version of the tool that gets good reviews.

The only areas I had to be gentle near was where all the lead filler was, as it will eat into that. But anything that mechanical removes rust and paint will anyway.
