Dave, thanks for the additional confirmation. The cylinder head gasket seems to be sound, with little reason to remove the head other than the collapsed lifter. Just wishful thinking on my part.

Joe, thanks much for sharing the images. That is a mighty handsome engine you have there. As far as the question on the splashers, do you mean the inner fenders (I guess that's what they are called)? If so, I don't think they attach anywhere at the bottom; just across the top and on the ends. If I have misunderstood your question, please let me know and I will do my best to help. Others including West can chime as well who may know. You are really going to have a fine looking car when you finish. I am inspired!
