That's an odd tire failure. If it's a tubeless tire, perhaps air got between plies or between the carcass and the outer layer of rubber due to a skinned spot or pinhole at the bead. If you could locate the damage/defect and cover it with silicon gasket goop, it might make the tire useable as a spare, assuming there is no wire bead damage. Adding an inner tube would be another possible option.
