Could be thinking of someone elses car but seem to remember your 356 engine was from a later year. If it is and also had the later bellhousing, instead of a cast eye for the spring end those had an ordinary clevis pin which varied by year. 3/16 dia x approx 3/8" long to just under 1/2" long inserted into a hole in the bellhousing. The spring loop went in the clevis hole instead of a cotter pin and the head kept the pin from pulling thru. Trans mounting flange was positioned over the head to prevent it from falling out if the spring became disconnected. I was able to find a 1/2" long clevis pin at a hardware store for the 47.
