Our 1932 901

Well my wife & I made the great leap. We acquired a 901 that was mid-way through a frame off restoration. The car had been in the owners family for over 55 years and the son decided to restore his father's Packard. Over the years before he started, that dreaded iron disease known as ironist oxidest (A.K.A. rust) had set in. But as is sometimes all too common, he passed away before completing the task. We bought the car from his widow who we are rapidly becoming good friends with.

Before we put down our green, he had; completely stripped the parts from the car, treated and painted the frame, painted & installed almost all of the hardware back on the frame, primed the major body parts, painted the fenders (black), painted (blue) the hood parts, chromed a substantial number of parts, had the dash and window trims re-wood grained, had the engine rebuilt, rebuilt the transmission and clutch.

The car was about 120 miles from where we live, but the and I wife made several trips so as to box and cataloging the parts before getting ready to load them into a trailer. After we had all the parts stored, we made another trip to pick up the car in which we had placed the seats and some of the larger parts. We picked up the car on January 14, 2011.

We are leaning towards painting the car body a light tan and the fenders a medium brown with a maroon pin stripping. And before anyone mentions that is not a correct 900 series paint scheme, we know. However, all three colors we have selected are era correct for a 1932 car. The interior will be finished with a period correct wool broadcloth in a tan shade. The carpet will be a medium brown material.

We were a little worried about it fitting on the car hauler we rented, but as one can see there were inches to spare.
