i had a little helper again, too bad he couldn't do much, but i would turn the tailshaft and he would try to do the same and obviously he couldn't turn it. LOL! but he sure did try, smiling the whole time. just melts my heart.

well, i would have been further along, except on of the bolt hols that hold the front pump to the bell housing stripped out and i didn't even get a chance to torque it to 15 ft lbs. i was like....crap.....then i was like....#%@#$^^!!

the pics of the bolt holes on the front oil pump is actually me trying to show that there are pegs on the bell housing that fit into holes in the front oil pump and they only go one way. and you can see the clean cup grease the manual says to put on to hold the gasket in place. it did work great.

i thought about using the old bell housing, but i would have to get out the bearing and seal again and i didn't want to risk it. so i hellicoiled it. it worked perfect. drilled it out (easy being aluminum) and then tapped, then coiled and bam all was fixed again. it worked perfect and i was able to torque it down. i used lock tight on all the bolts just incase it was alittle weak in other bolt holes even though they all torqued down just fine. and all i can say....hellicoils....are WAY too expensive, but i guess what it saved me was better in the long run.

also on the tailshaft to housing bolts...the two bottom self locking....i went ahead and put lock washers on there...since the manual didn't specify not to even though they were self locking. they didn't have them when i took them apart, but i felt better with the lock washers on there anyways.

next is the valve body...then.....the little things and some clean up. then paint it, but i am thinking about not painting it until i can paint it with the engine as a whole.....what do you guys think....paint now or later?

when i put the last bolt into the bell housing....i just had this emotional break down....i just started crying out loud.....a sense of accomplishment i guess.....it was a happy cry....a relieving cry. (yes men do cry) i felt this energy comming from the bolt as i inserted it and i thought about the soul of this car thanking me. i also thought about my grandfather.....i miss you.....but it is evident you are still with me.

anyways.....enjoy the pics i hope they help someone someday.

later,

Hank
