The machinists (Buxbaum bros) who bored out my Caribbean put in .020 over Egge pistons. They machined the clearances per Egge instructions, NOT Packard specs. Packard had steel struts in their pistons and therefore tighter tolerances than Egge which may be described as aluminum slugs. When machined properly the engine will give satisfactory performance. At around $800.00 I have heard you can get a set of very good custom pistons. I don't know this as a fact myself, but it has been reported on this forum.
