I've heard that everyone has a guardian angel, and I'd have to say that you're mine Mal! (and my shifter is identical to yours, it has no threads on it.)

Funny that you show this, as today's work out in the garage entailed me removing said forks from my trans so I can bolt it down solidly to the trans and see where the shifter will need to clear for the dash work. I also got the '56 steering box mounted on the chassis, and it hooks right up to the '37 linkage using the '37 pitman arm.

All this before 1pm..

Afterwards, I cleaned up the manifold side if the engine to get a template made of the intake/exhaust port and bolt arrangement. I went to a place here in Wichita called "The Yard" yesterday. If you ever need any type of steel or aluminum in any configuration, they've got it. I picked up a piece of 3/8" thick by 2.5" wide by 4' long steel to make the manifold flange for $6.75.
