A banner day for the Four Hundred here in the Commonwealth! The re-built heater core assembly was installed and the heater hoses put in their correct positions. The one leaky hose connection was corrected so that has been accomplished. The brake system is back on line and the car stops when pressure is applied to the brake pedal.

Since it is a lovely spring day, I took it out for a short test drive in the neighbourhood and decided to be adventurous and drove to a nearby gasoline station for a fill up. This was the Four Hundred's first re-fueling at a station since I bought it and probably for quite a while.

As soon as I pulled up to the pumps, one of the mechanics came out of his work bay and greeted me with "I thought I recognised a Packard when you turned into the station. Is that a '55?" As I was pumping fuel into the tank, the fellow next to me with a pick-up asked how big the tank was. I told him 20 gallons, which is good since the car gets only about 15 miles per gallon. The guy looked at his pick-up and said "so does mine." Cool.

I also just learned from my automotive friend that my re-built carburator came back to his shop last night so I have to arrange to drive the Four Hundred over there to have it installed and some other work done. Stay tuned.
