NO to the hardened seats. Only as a last resort to save a scrap block or head. Something for a used car lot to maybe do.

I thot maybe yours split becaause of a hardened seat installed.

which engine is it??? The 288??? i'm not familiar with the 48 models altho i do own a 48 2262 as a parts car.
