Hello Rich49, I have a 1949 Golden anniversary Super 8 Deluxe Touring Sedan with an R code. Mine was repainted a very nice gold color at some point about 25 years or so ago. Very close to the original gold color. During the summer I had to adjust the rear wing windows so I took the window surround out to do this and low and behold there is the original truly pristine Golden Anniversary Paint!
In Robert J Neal's book "Packard 1948 to 1950" on page 78 is a 1949 Deluxe Eight Sedan with most of it's original "Anniversary Gold" paint. His Looks a little more Brassier color than The Anniversary Gold under my Window Surround. But that might be just the photograph. You have to understand that the original "Anniversary Gold" was gold flecks with a clear coat over it which is one of the reasons it did not hold up, beautiful and stunning at the time as it was.
From what I understand there were only two Super Eight Deluxe Touring Sedans made for the "Driveaway Event". If that is true I believe my car is that first car on the field in that color photograph. The second Super Eight Deluxe Touring Sedan was on the Sixth Floor of the Masonic Temple for the Gala event.
