Thanks! I couldn't feel anything holding the pin in. The carpet is all bunched up on that side of the pin I so can't look at it. The parts manual didn't list any kind of a retainer for 1953. So maybe it's like you said, a slight press fit. Unfortunately I ran out of time to try prying the pin loose.
