50th Anniversary celebration

This past weekend the Packard Automobile Club of Australia celebrated its 50th Anniversary. This was done in the tradition of similar past milestone celebrations by returning to where the first event was run. And where was that? Why, Kiama a scenic coastal town about 120kms(70miles) south of Sydney. That first ever run was on Sunday 12th December 1965 with a group of Sydney Packard owners meeting there. Similar runs were held on the 25th, 30th and 40th Anniversaries, these being elevated to over the weekend stays with a celebratory dinner on the Saturday night. This year the 12th December fell on a Saturday which made timing of the event easy. Geoff, a club member who lives reasonably locally, made the arrangements both for accommodation and dinner. Geoff also decorated the room with Packard photos, memorabilia and Packard items, arranged a continuous Packard slideshow, provided backdrop photographs on the screen while speakers gave their addresses, dressed the table with Packard designed placemats and to top all that made up presentation booklets for all attending! We were well looked after. 9 Packards and 34 members, partners and friends attended the dinner while a few others dropped in on the Saturday afternoon. On the Sunday a group photo of Packards and attendees was arranged but, because of other commitments, the Coupe and I missed that part of the festivities. After the photos, was a visit to the Australian Motorlife Museum a little further down the coast before turning for home.
