Class & Special Awards Winners at Santa Fe Concorso

Shown below are the 13 class and special awards winners in chronological order.

1913 Ford Model T - The Concorso wanted a 1912 Automobile to help celebrate New Mexico's 100th anniversary as a state. This Model T was built in December 1912. It is an exceptional example of the series.

1923 Mercedes 28/95 Targa Florio - This wonderful sports racer was brought by the Petersen Automotive Museum. It is powered by a converted 6-cylinder, 7.2 liter aircraft type engine. Beautifully restored. It was also the recipient of the Best of Show Sport award.

1930 Stutz Model M Lancefield Coupe - This Lancefield bodied Stutz is just a gorgeous and elegant automobile. Like the 1929 Le Mans cars, the 325 cu. in., 185 b.h.p., straight-8 engine is equipped with a crankshaft direct-driven supercharger. It was also the recipent of the Best of Show Elegance award.

1937 Cord 812 Supercharged Phaeton - This is the car that the cowboy movie star Tim Mix was driving when he was killed.

1940 Lincoln Continental Cabriolet - A great example of a classic American automobile. The engine compartment was especially nice and detailed.

1952 Buick Super Bonneville Land Sped Record Car - This monster is as bad sounding as it looks. The owner started the car and gave us all a treat of what a 162 m.p.h. Buick straight-8 sounds like. Awesome!

1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster - This car still retains its original leather luggage and most of its original paint.

1958 MG-A EX 186 - Built to race at Le Mans, but was never raced and was rescued from destruction. Beautifully restored, it was a favorite of Sir Stirling Moss, natch.

1963 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray Split Window Coupe - This car is one of only approximately 63 coupes with the Z06 "Big Tank' option package. One of my favorite Corvettes.

1965 Shelby Cobra 289 - One of about 500 Cobras with the Ford 289 V-8 that were built from 1963 to 1965.

1966 Aston Martin DB6 Coupe - Just a lovely motor car and the red exterior was just right for this DB6.

1966 Pontiac GTO - The owner claims he only drives this GTO one mile per month. He must have reached his mileage limit for September as it was towed to the field and held up placing many other cars for about an hour. This caused a major inconvenience to us. He did start it and drive it to receive his award. Beautiful car, ugly acting owner.

I am making plans to be a volunteer again next year. See you at the Concorso?

Edit: I left off one winner.

1957 Citroen 11B Traction Avant Legere - This wonderful little French car was the last to receive an award, but I don't know which one. It was one of the last Traction Avants built having rolled off of the factory floor in July 1957.

I would also like to add that there were many other automobiles displayed that, in my opinion, were as nice or nicer than the ones selected for awards. It was a high quality field.
