According to parts manual AC was available on all prewar Clipper models except the taxi.

Howard (HH56), it is not easy to understand the reason for this limitation. Men, who sat their whole day in the car and earned money by help of a Packard could not order A/C?

Gerd, that is a good point but in some cases I wonder how effective it would have been since it was in the trunk. A lot of cabs of that era were what I think was called New York Taxis. Those had a partition separating the driver and passenger so doubt he would have gotten much benefit.

I think also that most cabs then were owned by companies and not drivers. I doubt they would care to spend what was a fairly large amount of money on driver comfort. I expect taxi drivers were in sort of the same social class as chauffeurs and creature comfort was not a priority.
