That's too bad that the motor smokes but as others point out, we don't know why. I am not a flathead knoweldgeable guy but I know on OHV motors there were only 3-4 reasons for an oil burning situation. It could be running rich.

On CL, there always seems to be a reason a car is modestly priced and doesn't sell right away.

In this case I am not sure I would be dissuaded at that price. The worst case scenario is a partial engine rebuild but you would still be ahead.

I agree it makes no difference to me that this is a bottom line Packard, it's a well executed design with 8 cyl power and a period nice interior. Somebody buy it!
