The plate is blocking off where the oil cooler and filter assembly originally attached. That assembly is unique to 1934. It's a full-flow filter system and looking at the apparently undersized copper tubing being used as a shunt, I wonder but the oil volume to the main gallery might be impaired.

Incorrect ignition coils also noted.
