Re: 51 Door Trim Cloth and design

Just had an unexpected breakthrough regarding the embossing . . . .

A local chap has just received his new '54 door panels from SMS and I just noticed Mal had posted some photos of them - see Wades Workshop post 21 Jan (scroll down to the light blue car + trim).

I had a chat with owner (Chris), and was told SMS has used the heat & pressure process to create these 'embossed' trim panels. Chris is pleased with result, albeit he waited 8 months to have them made!

So there is hope for getting correctly reproduced panels. Of course SMS will take a very long time to get anything made so I'll keep looking around for alternatives to them. Also - a friend has an English Wheel, so could try it but I think the localised pressure would destroy the backing board (- which would need to be supported well to cope with the pressure, being light weight panel).

Will also contact justdashes.com for an opinion. Thanks Howard and David for your help with this.
