Thought of another thing: Check for correct assembly of the regulator valve that runs side to side in the bell housing. It is possible to assemble with the spring on the wrong end. Ask me how I know.
This is the valve most easily reached in that there is a plug with a 7/8 head on it on both the right and left side of the bell housing. It can be checked without removing or draining anything. Correct assy is shown in the shop manual.
