Understanding the pointer lamp:

The wiring diagram shows for the speedometer a panel lamp and a pointer lamp.
Pointer lamp comes alight as long as the tail lights are working, panel lamp(s) get operated through the instrument lamp switch and can be dimmed or switched off.

My clipper does not have a pointer lamp (as far as i can figure out contorting under my dash, armed with torch and mirror).
Speedo panel lamp stays alight when pulling the instrument switch.

Is the pointer lamp a feature rarely found, not at all or is my speedo missing something important?

Enlightened Regards,
Clemens
