If you’ve asking how to get clearance to remove the engine, I don't believe it’s necessary to take it apart other than removing the hood and braces (I’m not an expert of the ‘48-‘50 era) but my personal preference is to remove the entire front clip leaving only the frame and engine sticking out. That’s actually not as difficult as it sounds but it does take help in lifting it off as a unit as it’s quite heavy. Several pairs of strong arms should be able to handle it.
