Thanks for all the help. The packard that I removed the light from is a 1947 Custom and there was a wire in the loom specifically for this light . If I recall correctly the Custom models 2106 and 2126 came equipped with a trunk light as standard. In the 51 -54 manual there are instructions for installing a trunk light accessory and it mentions that the wire is to be connected to the licence plate light wire by replacing the single connector with a 4 way one. I am assuming that the blue car was not a Custom and that the light was installed as an accessory hence the rather shoddy installation. Am I correct?
