Drake,

That was me, I have a 327 Motor with a 288 AT head on it. Generally there were 3 heads between the 327's and 288's.

288 Standard and 327 AT (same head, just different markings)
288 AT
327 Standard

There may have been HC heads availble, and service replacement heads. But the three above were the standard factory shipped heads.

Generally the AT heads had a slightly higher compression then the standard heads. With the 288 AT having the smallest combustion chamber. So the 288 AT was sometimes used on the 327 bottom end to bump up the compression.

Check the motor number which is stamped on the a pad on the drivers side of the motor towards the rear. It should start with a "L". Check the list below to figure out what actual motor is in your car.

CLIPPER SPECIAL L-200000 to L-233778. -> 288 (Solid Tappet)
CLIPPER DELUXE L-300000 to L-330920. -> 327 (Solid Tappet)
CAVALIER/PACKARD 2631 L-400000 to L-418552 -> 327, 5 Bearing(Hydraulic Tappet)
PATRICIAN/EXECUTIVE L-600000 to L-607829 -> 327, 9 Bearing (Hydraulic Tappet)

If the letter is not an "L" then it's not a '53 motor. 'M' would be 54, 'K' would be 52, etc.
