My 47 also has that material similar to undercoat on the sides which is in pretty sad shape. It also seems to have patches of a tannish-brownish flocking remaining in places. Don't know whether that was on all Packards then or possibly something a dealer installed. I do remember it in a 51 as well. If others confirm flocking would be proper, there is a place where you can still buy the stuff and equipment to apply it.http://www.donjer.com/
