When sourcing the compensator valve spring, don't forget that the original was stainless steel for a good reason, and as such I wonder if they really need routine replacement? If you can't find stainless, perhaps phosphor-bronze or beryllium copper would serve as well? In any case you want complete corrosion resistance to whatever environment it might encounter.
Randy Berger was searching for a replacement spring a while back - perhaps he'll chime in if he had any success. As I recall, there was a spring in Century Spring's catalog that appeared close.
