50 Convertible question

I'm working on a 1950 convertible and have a question regarding the radiator support. On this car, the hoop that goes around the top of the radiator is welded in two places, where it meets the vertical members that support the radiator. This is not the case on other 22-23rd Series sedans that I've owned. Also, the welds look rather "bodged up", not what you'd expect of a factory job. This is somewhat surprising though, as the car is largely original and unmolested. I'm wondering if this might have been a modification that was done on convertibles with the intent of further stiffening the frame. Any other '48-'50 convertible owners out there who can verify or comment?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Mark Kurth
