Overdrive help!!!

Hey all, I need some help with my overdrive unit in my '53 Clipper. The car is not currently running, but when it drove before I couldn't get the OD to engage. The cable on the dash would engage/disengage the freewheel, but it does not effect engine speed. From what I understand there is some kind of kick down mechanism that is connected to the accelerator pedal.... But i have know idea what I'm looking at. Is there some kind of schematic somewhere that shows how everything should be hooked up? I'm thinking maybe my car did not come with an OD and the previous owner could have installed this tranny without all the necessary equipment... Any info or explanation on this would be immensely helpful. Maybe someone has pictures of how this is put together on their car?
