48 custom8 - how do you remove radio

In prepping my car for the season, I noticed the the radio dial did not change the station so I used the press buttons..never had trouble before and I'm sure its mechanical,,,so I looked at trying to remove the radio..noticed 3 nuts on the back but can't see where the wiring goes...assume the radio comes out from the front...is it just the 3 nuts that retain it ? why wouldn't the knob turn the dial? Is it worthwhile updating to AM/FM? radio also has a background hum which I assume is the vibrator...Thanks
