Re: Tire Pressure

Don't forget that some of the people reading these entries may not have all the information they need. For example, running high tire pressures with snap rings will cause some real problems like rim failure and death. Also, those tires pressures specified by Packard take into consideration the what the rim manufacturer has specified as a maximum. Thirdly, running high pressures in tubeless is a lot different than with tubes. Tubes are more likely to fail from high speed blowout.

I was looking at some old articles by Tom McCahill and in none of them does he talk about going to the local gas station and cranking up tire pressures because he is about to drive from Chicago to Las Vegas as fast as the car will go.

The tires on my modern car are not rated for sustained speeds over 80 mph. I've had blowouts at highway speeds without loss of control, but the damage to the vehicle was substantial. The non-sense about roll over due to blowout is something wrong with the computer control locking a wheel via Traction Control/ABS, or someone slamming on the brakes and spinning the wheel like an idiot.

One of the shortcomings of democracy is that if most people are idiots then the world will be run by stupid laws like tire pressure warning lights that don't go out unless the tires are overinflated.
