A couple of months ago I went through my Distributor, and had to replace the vacuum pot. When I added an extra washer inside, it shifted the vac advance.
From my Caribbean Blog page:
Adding the washer shifted the vac advance curve. Before, advance started at 4,5 in, and was all in by 6. Now it starts at 6, and is all in by 9 inches of mercury.

My 359 has not had any pinging under load, with this setup.

So effectively the washer increases spring's tension, which changes your advance curve, correct?

My brother would accuse me of way over-thinking this, but it has certainly peaked my curiosity!

My post above shows what the specs should be for both mechanical and vacuum advance for my 327. Assuming there have not been any changes made to the mechanical advance weights or springs it should function to spec. And given the specs for vacuum advance are just showing what the max vacuum advance is, are we to assume that as long as you have the correct vacuum advance unit that our vacuum advance curve is correct? And if I was to get my distributor, or vacuum advance, bench tested what is the correct vacuum for my advance to begin and then to be all in?
