47 Custom carpet question.

Can someone tell me what is happening with the carpet in the area to the sides of front seat. I know the front and rear carpets are on the thick rubber mat and extend to the sill molding but the area between the mats is a question. Does the front carpet extend front to back as far rearward as the seat tracks and does the rear piece extend the full distance from the rear seat to the rear mount of the seat tracks? Marks in the old front carpet make me think the front does extend but the notches in old rear piece are several inches back so maybe it stops at something else -- maybe the foot rest under the seat back.

Another question. From this ebay photo, It appears the short section in center between the front and rear pieces is lower than the others. Is it just a strip of carpet only and mats lay on top or am I not seeing it correctly and it does have the thick mat under? If it is just a strip, is it cemented or attached to floor or just lays under the seat tracks and sill molding and the thicker carpet holds it down.

The reason for the questions and as an FYI to anyone redoing carpet in a long dormant car with only rotten pieces remaining. With old age and hot dry conditions, the rubber mats and carpet apparently can shrink considerably. I was getting ready to cut new mats using the old pieces as a pattern when a lucid moment suddenly compelled me to check the fit on the old. It appears to have shrunk to about 1 1/2 inches narrower than the sill moldings and unknown how much shorter front to back
