Seals are available and possibly even kits as the Bendix cylinders were used by several mfg--cylinders probably too although mounts differed between mfgr. Found a seal by taking old to industrial supply house and matched. I believe my kit came from a Ford vendor although that was a few yrs ago. Maybe Packard vendors have now.

EDIT: They do. Tuscon Packards & Max Merritt has cylinders & various kits.

Look carefully at the rod for any signs of pitting. If it sat a long time with rod partially exposed to elements, it may have developed small pits and a new seal won't help because it'll just wear it out. The photo of an old Monroe unit shows what I am talking about with the small bright spots that are rough to touch (dark ones are grease). About the only option I'm aware of if pitted is to replace or maybe have the rod hard chromed and ground if someone willing to do it. Maybe someone else has a different experience.
