I would think most all the engine castings must have had some kind of date for quality purposes. Packard V8 posted a photo of an engine which appears to have a 10-11-48 casting number. The other number on his looks to be 122 instead of your 55. No idea what that second number is but maybe some kind of reference to the master pattern they used to make the sand mold or maybe the actual sequence number in the line of engines that was cast that day??
