Don't know if this'll help Packard 1948, but Pappy, Wix 87055 is a dead match for our 1947 356 air cleaners; slips right in like it was made specifically for ours.

Have heard some reports oil bath incrementally better than paper. Was this SAE or other vetted comparison, or more opinion, hearsay? Perhaps if you lived in a stone quarry or the Sahara. Doubt any appreciable difference otherwise, and perhaps modern paper still better if you want to split hairs.

As with air filters in modern cars, if you put serious miles on your Packard, good idea to turn it 180 degrees.
