The other spring by the carb is a question. 22nd has it shown but it does not appear in the 21st parts list or illustrations -- but then the 21st parts list is interesting because it shows a considerable amount if not most of the prewar assy as being used on 21st cars and I have yet to see that unit on a postwar car. All the cars I've seen have the postwar unit which except for some minor details and the calibration was the same as the 22nd series. I'm thinking that if the prewar unit was used at all it might have been on a few of the very early 46 21st series and the manual was just a copy of the original Clipper parts book and didn't get all the pages revised showing the postwar unit.


I know some 21st cars didn't have the spring and I've seen a few that do. Since the 22nd called for it I added the bracket and spring on mine because I didn't feel the throttle was coming back to idle reliably -- but then I readjusted some linkage and took the spring off because it was too heavy. Went on to do some other things so the engine was not able to be started & haven't played with it since to know if the linkage took care of the idling or if a lighter spring is still needed.
