If you want a year-round gear oil (which just about everyone uses these days) use an SAE85W-140, but make sure it's an EP (extreme pressure) or gear oil recommended for hypoid gearing. A simple gear oil like a GL-1 does not have the additives for heavy loading like hypoid gears and would ruin the gearset in short order. You might want to check the link below for my favorites.

Fill just to the bottom threads of the filler plug or even slightly below; do NOT overfill! The owner's or shop manual should give you the exact quantity in pints if you wish - I didn't note which chassis you were inquiring about but note the Custom 8 differential is a very different unit, same lubricant but likely a larger capacity.http://www.packardclub.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=15
