I had a problem with the trunk light staying on - battery died. So I removed the socket and read how it was supposed to work. The ball was not rolling in the chamber and I didn't want to open the container and ruin it so I shook it as hard as I could till I could hear the ball rolling easily and that worked for me. I've done that a couple of times over the years - been driving the car since '92,
