Standard shift transmissions get gear oil. If you have an automatic (Ultramatic), it gets automatic transmission oil, NOT gear oil.

Brenda, you would benefit from either getting a reprinted owner's manual, or downloading the Texaco lubrication chart from The Packard Club website.
